The health harms & environmental injustice of oil and gas extraction-and why we won't allow more in California!
Join us on Thursday October 9th to learn from two experts about the existing evidence about the health harms and environmental injustice attributable to oil and gas drilling.
We will learn together in order to inform our engaged opposition in our campaign against the efforts to lease our public lands in California for new oil and gas drilling.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to open over 600,000 acres of public lands in California to new oil and gas drilling, with the draft Environmental Impact Report expected October 24th. The most important action we can take is to mobilize health professionals to submit comments on the report documenting the health harms of expanded drilling during the comment window.
Our special guest speakers will be:
- David Gonzalez, PhD, MS, MESc- Assistant Professor, Environmental Health Sciences, UC Berkeley Public Health
- William "Ben" Allhouse, PhD, BSPH- Instructor | Environmental & Occupational Health, Colorado School of Public Health | CU Anschutz Medical Campus
We hope you'll join us to learn more about the health harms of oil and gas drilling, we'll discuss resources you can use to provide impactful comments on the health harms of this proposal. The BLM must respond to every substantive comment, making each health professional’s voice important to stopping the massive expansion that threatens air quality and public health across California.
Please join us to learn about the scientific evidence and to take action together as we prepare to submit and deliver effective public comments on this issue.
