CHN Advocacy Training Session 2: California Legislative Process and Lingo

Please join us with our special guest speaker, Dr Lisa Chang, CHN member and active advocacy leader with 350 Bay Area Action, in which we'll discuss:

  • The California legislative process including how legislation moves from bill introduction in January and February to the Governor signing it into law (or not) in September. 

  • How bills get assigned to different committees, and how to participate as an advocate when committees hear bills,

  • The role/influence of committee chairs, the roulette of the appropriations committees (and what bills go to Appropriations)

  • Legislation vs Referendums vs Regulations-- key differences 

Our goal is for all our members to feel more comfortable with the lingo and process so that getting engaged as a climate health equity advocate is easier and perhaps less intimidating!
