Thank you for your interest in becoming one of our CHN Speaks Co-Leaders!
This application is due Friday February 2, 2024 by 8p PT. Please reach out to us at connect@climatehealthnow.org with any questions.
In the words of Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, climate scientist and author, "the most important thing we can do about climate change is talk about it." One of the primary “asks” of CHN since its inception is whether there are slides or resources available to members who want to give talks – we want to be able to answer YES. We are launching CHN Speaks to do just that – enable members of the California health community to talk to their peers and colleagues about climate change, health, and equity. Each presentation will have a concrete “ask” that helps galvanize members of the health community to join us and take collective action to further the climate health movement.
To start – we are looking for 2-3 people to lead CHN Speaks!
The vision for CHN Speaks for 2024
CHN is working to organize and mobilize the health community in California to become confident climate advocates. Our goal for 2024 is to equip ~ 10 members to talk to a group of their peers and colleagues about the health and equity impacts of climate change in California and opportunities to join us in working to bring an end to the climate crisis. The leaders of CHN Speaks will work to bring this vision to life!
The role
For 2024, the CHN Speaks leaders will work to:
- Create a presentation template - we have already collected slides from CHN members and have a basic outline and template to work from
- Coach and mentor ~ 10 members in preparing to give their talk
You do not need an extensive public speaking or coaching background to serve as a CHN Speaks team leader! Leaders of this team will be provided opportunities for training related to public narrative and peer coaching – any associated costs will be covered by CHN.
The commitment
The team leaders will be chosen by mid February, and this leadership team will stay on through the rest of the calendar year. We estimate that on average the work will require 1-3 hours per week, and most of the work can be done on your own schedule and asynchronously, with as needed meetings with your co-team leader(s), 1 on 1 meetings with members who want to give a talk and/or the CHN Statewide Leadership Team.
What to expect after you submit your application
- We will reach out to schedule a phone call or virtual meeting once we receive and review your application
- CHN Speaks Team Co-Leaders for 2024 will be chosen by Friday, February 16, 2024
