The role

You and a fellow CHNAF member will be supported in using community organizing principles to organize our members around a specific California Legislative Bill or Regulation that has climate and health impacts. Experience with legislative advocacy, the California legislative and regulatory process, and community organizing is not required - Climate Health Now Action Fund will provide the training and coaching to help you succeed through the whole process.

In this role, you will work with CHNAF’s Leadership Team and Advocacy Advisory Team to help decide what legislative bills and regulations we’ll work on in 2024. From there, you will work in teams of two to lead one of our campaigns for the year. You will be responsible for participating in our leader training preparation meetings (dates below), tracking your bill/regulation, working in coalition with other groups as a representative of CHNAF, creating health-specific talking points, identifying campaign strategies, and managing campaign tactics with the goal of both pushing forward the campaign by leveraging our health voices and creating opportunities for CHNAF members to take meaningful action. You will work closely with CHNAF’s Leadership Team throughout, and also have the option to add additional members to your team from the CHNAF membership.

The commitment

Schedule: Engagement between February 15 to October 2024. Campaign needs fluctuate greatly week by week; on average it requires about 1-3 hours per week and most of the work can be done on your own schedule and asynchronously.

• Training Session 2 [California Legislative Process and Lingo]: Wednesday, March 6 @12-1pm
• CHNAF Campaign Prioritization Session: Wednesday, March 20, 2024 @ 12-1pm
• Training Session 3 [Anatomy of a Campaign & Tactics]: Thursday, April 4, 2024 @ 12-1pm
  

What to expect after you submit your application

• We will reach out to schedule a phone call for a date and time between January 17- 26, 2024
• Advocacy Campaign Leaders will be chosen by January 31, 2024
