In the words of Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, climate scientist and author,"the most important thing we can do about climate change is talk about it." Launching this year, CHN Speaks aims to enable members of the California health community to talk to their peers and colleagues about climate change, health, and equity. Each presentation will have a concrete “ask” that helps galvanize members of the health community to join us and take collective action to further the climate health movement. Even if you have never given a talk like this, we believe that you absolutely have the ability to, and we want to help you do it!

The vision for CHN Speaks for 2024

CHN is working to organize and mobilize the health community in California to become confident climate advocates. Our goal for 2024 is to equip ~ 10 members to talk to a group of their peers about the health and equity impacts of climate change in California and the opportunities to join us in bringing an end to the climate crisis.

If you are chosen as a CHN Speaks Coachee for this cohort, you will receive individualized coaching and mentorship by the CHN Speaks Team Co-Leads (Carolina Fonseca, Cindy Haq, and Jeff Mann) to develop and give a presentation to fellow health community members (at your own workplace or another health community setting).

The commitment

You will be paired with a coach (one of our CHN Speaks Team Co-Leads) to identify a health audience and schedule your talk, to develop the content outline and sources for your presentation, and to review public speaking tips and rehearse your talk. This coaching will be personalized to your needs. Your commitment as part of this program will consist of one-on-one meetings with your coach to prepare you for your presentation.
